The Serious Injury Law Group is giving away $50,000 in scholarships and awards to 7th-12th grade students for the 2020-2021 school year. Students 7th-12th grade will be eligible for the "Most Improved Student Award". There will be 25 awards for students in Alabama. These students must be able to show an improvement of at least one letter grade as compared to the previous school year. They must fill out the application on the Serious Injury Law Group website, include a reference from at least one school administrator or teacher from their current school year, provide official report cards from the current and previous school year, and include a one-page paper explaining how they have improved academically. Link included here. The deadline for the award application is June 11, 2021. There will be 15 scholarships that will be eligible for high school seniors in the state of Alabama. The minimum eligibility requirements for these scholarships are as follows: minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 and an acceptance letter to an in-state college, university, or trade school. STEM Scholarship Program Each year, the STEM Scholarship Program awards $10,000 to 200 recipients studying engineering or computer science at a 4-year college or university. College Prep Workshop UPDATE: To allow for more registrants, the first event has been moved to Wednesday, February 3 at 6:00 p.m. Alabama 4-H at AAMU is hosting a College Prep Workshop the last Wednesday of every month this semester. Workshops are FREE to attend and will be conducted online via Zoom. These workshops are best suited for high school students who are preparing for college, and their parents. The first workshop is Wednesday, January 27 at 6:00 p.m. The topic is: "Academic Resume: How to Stand Out to Colleges." The Coolidge may be used by recipients at any accredited college or university in the United States. Attention Scholars: New registration for dual enrollment through Wallace Community College is open. Any 10th-12th grade scholar interested in registering for dual enrollment class through Wallace Community College can register starting today, January 7, 2021 through January 14, 2021. The following steps should be completed by the end of the day on January 14th: 1. Complete an online application at www.wccs.edu. Click the admissions button. Create an account. 2. Complete the Dual Enrollment eligibility form and submit to Ms. Pritchett. This form can be found on the school’s website at https://www.wilcox.k12.al.us/o/wchs. Click on menu. Click on documents. The form is also located at the school. 3. Complete Kuder Assessment using your Kuder account. Login information can be obtained from the school or email Ms. Pritchett at Benita.pritchett@wilcoxboe.org. 4. Update your Four year plan using your Kuder account. Login information can be obtained from the school or email Ms. Pritchett at Benita.pritchett@wilcoxboe.org 5. Submit a Picture ID. If you do not have an ID, you can email a picture to Benita.pritchett@wilcoxboe.org. All of these steps must be completed by January 14th.
