FAFSA

Attention parents and scholars, October is FAFSA completion month. Wilcox Central High School is partnering with Alabama‐based Cash for College to support our students and parents seeking financial aid for college, including academic and technical programs at two-year and four-year schools. If your student is a senior and plans to attend college next fall, the FAFSA is the first step to receiving financial aid to pay for college.

The FAFSA is a key step for any student who plans to attend college and is seeking federal and state financial aid, including grants and loans. It is a free online application which requires applicable financial information for both the student and the parent(s) of dependent students. Completion of the FAFSA qualifies eligible students for federal grants, including the Pell Grant of up to $6,495 per year. Pell Grants are a form of gift aid that does not have to be repaid. Information submitted on the FAFSA is often used by colleges and universities when determining merit and need‐based scholarship awards.

To assist with FAFSA completion, Wilcox Central High School will host a FAFSA completion workshop to provide tips and answer questions regarding the application on October 5th at 3:00. If we report an increase in FAFSA completion at the end of FAFSA season, Cash for College will honor these successes with a celebration event and grant awards to recognize schools with the greatest improvement in FAFSA completion.
