On Saturday November 14th the Wilcox Central Jaguars played against the Calhoun High School 2019-2020 State champions. Though the teams fell short in one of the three games in the minds of team members and the Jaguar fans, we came home with three wins.

The Junior Varsity coached by Antonio Bonham, Lakisha Poe, and Eric Carson defeated the team with a final score of 49-41.  The top three scorers for the team Steven Nickelson (Sophomore) with 17 points; Cedric Irby (Sophomore) with 12 points; and Joshua Blue (Freshman) with 11 points.

The girls coached by Robert Rucker and Calvin Finch  defeated the team with a final score of 52-33.  The top three scorers were Ebony Shears (Freshman) with 32 points; Chaquona Jones (Sophomore) with 12 points; and Otisha Cox (Freshman) 4 points.

The Varsity team coached by Kelvin Lett and Antonio Bonham faced the reigning champions falling short of 5 points with a final score of 67-72 won by adversity.  The guys entered the courts with so many odds against them, as they were facing Jerdarrian Davis (the number one player in the state) and his fans.  The boys played as a strong cohesive team giving it there all for every second on the clock.  The top three scorers for the team were Carlos Williams Jr. (Senior) with 36 points; Antryaun Anderson (Senior) with 13 points; and Jamarius Packer (Freshman) with 8 points.

All three teams left with their heads held high as even though there weren’t three actual wins, overcoming adversity always wins in the end.
